Last Chance to See District 2 & 3 City Council Candidates – Mount Baker Community Club 1&2 August, 7pm
Mount Baker, Seattle, July 29, 2019 – In 2015 only 36% of registered voters cast their ballot in District 3 and a mere 27% in District 2. The Mount Baker Community Club is hoping to help address such low turnout by holding 2 Candidate Forums on 1st and 2nd August.
Both nights begin at 7pm where Candidates will face posed by residents from both Districts. Questions have been submitted through the Mount Baker Community Club website, social media and on the night.
In a primary that has seen 55 candidates standing for election in total, the Community Club hopes to have a great turn out and encourage more people to get out and vote. As a non-partisan, non-profit it is a key part of the Club’s mission to be the heart of the neighborhood and provide a place for people to gather and build community.
Organizer, Alison Andrew, says: “I moved to Seattle (from the UK) just over 6 years ago. It’s really frustrating that I cannot vote on local issues. So, this is part of what I can do to at least be part of the process. The Mount Baker Community Club is such a special place in our neighborhood, and I hope that by organizing these events I can at least encourage others to cast their ballot. It’s a right that many have fought for and such an important part of living in a democracy.”
Both evenings are open to anyone and free to attend. To guarantee a seat, you can even register for free. Go to https://www.mountbaker.org/candidate-forum
District 2 Candidates attend on Thursday 1stAugust and District 3 on Friday 2ndAugust.
