Scholarships Awards Ceremony Friday March 23, 2018 7:30pm

Join us at the Mount Baker Community Clubhouse in support of our students

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund was created in Mount Baker in 1985 as a neighborhood effort to honor the work and dreams of Dr. King. For 34 years we have raised approximately 100,000 annually to further this important work. All our neighbors are encouraged and welcome to attend the awards. There is no cost to attend - just turn up on the night.

In 2018 we will award 12 scholarships to students from Franklin, Garfield, Cleveland, and Rainier Beach High schools. At a time when our student voices are being heard louder than ever, we welcome all of our neighbors to join us at this wonderful celebration to cheer these students on in the pursuit of their dreams..

Long-time residents of the community, Ron Sims, former King County Executive, and Norm Rice, former Mayor of Seattle, will be our guides on the night.  The students will talk about some of the obstacles that they have overcome and what their future plans are.   It's a night that showcases the long-held values of this community. It's a night that will inspire you and make you proud!

The goal of this Scholarship Fund is to help students who are members of racial or ethnic minorities, underrepresented in American colleges and universities, achieve the dream of a higher education. The Scholarship Fund seeks out students who show financial need and academic promise, and who have overcome obstacles and contributed to their community. This community's strong support of the recipients is one of the most unique and important attributes of the scholarship.

Mission Statement:

In furtherance of the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Mount Baker Community Club awards college scholarships to deserving students of color who might not otherwise achieve their dream of a college education. We seek out and give highest consideration to young people who show financial need, have overcome obstacles, have worked to improve their communities and who might be overlooked by traditional scholarships.
